The first-ever Celebration of the Sea all-day music festival last weekend in Key Largo was a marked success for event organizers, who scheduled the event to be entertaining and educational.
Environmentalists from throughout the Keys who actively work to maintain a healthy marine habitat were recognized for their ongoing efforts.
People of all walks of life spread out blankets, lawn chairs and coolers at Rowell's Marina in Key Largo, mile marker 104.5, as notable music greats took the stage.
Celebration of the Sea Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that promotes ocean conservation awareness, hosted the event, featuring (pictured here) Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, DMC of Run DMC, Chuck Berry, local singer/songwriter David Feder, a Harley-Davidson super model fashion show and more.
Area restaurants were on site, serving up conch fritters, tuna sashimi, hamburgers, conch ceviche and other local staples along with sodas, water, and of course, beer, all at a reasonable price.
A 41-foot by 21-foot, four-foot deep dive pool, provided by DEMA (The Dive Equipment Marketing Association), allowed some to try a sample dive, complete with all the gear.
As night fell, fireworks lit up the bay, the backdrop to the stage. Chuck Berry wrapped up the show, complete with "Johnny Be Good" and his famous duck-walk.
