LEGENDARY HIP-HOP ARTIST PROMOTES INTERNATIONAL AWARENESS THROUGH FASHION
PHOTO SHOOT IN NEW YORK - MONDAY, JULY 31, 2006
New York, NY – Legendary hip-hop artist Darryl “DMC” McDaniels teams up with fashion stylist and designer Elizabeth Muir for photo shoot in New York this Monday to create a socially aware look for the United Nations (U.N.) Fashion Fights Poverty look-book being produced for the U.N. Fashion Fights Poverty Event to be held this October. DMC (a founder of multi-platinum rap group Run-DMC) recently released his debut solo album Checks Thugs and Rock N’ Roll (RomeMpire Records/From Rags 2 Riches Records) on which he collaborated with several high-profile artists including Sarah McLachlan, Run, and Kid Rock amongst others (available in stores now – www.me-dmc.com). Muir, who most recently has designed and styled for the country/rock world, has enlisted the help of several big names including DMC, Aveda, Douglas Sonders Photography, and Supreme Model Management pairing them with designs from Bono and Ali Hewson’s socially conscious Edun brand and Loomstate’s 100% organic cotton line as well as from artisans around the world, including Maasai women in Kenya, widows in Afghanistan, and women in war-torn countries, to contribute to her creation of a look that financially and environmentally gives back to the world. “Incorporating benevolence into style and dressing with a purpose is the way of the future,” Muir says.
