Even though Boston-boy-gone-Hollywood Mark Wahlberg is one of the silver screen’s most recognizable faces, the “Shooter” star still gets star-struck, his buddy and a third of the rap trio Run D.M.C., Darryl McDaniels, aka D.M.C., told the Track.
“Me and (“Sopranos” and “Entourage” casting director) Shelia Jaffe met Mark for dinner and he was like, ‘Oh my God. Anything you need man, I’ll get it. Do you know who you are?! Do you know who you are?!’ ” laughed McDaniels, who started The Felix Organization/Adoptees for Children with Jaffe.
Jaffe set up the meeting between the two hotshots seven years ago after D.M.C. revealed, at the age of 35, that he had just learned he was adopted.
“I found out (I was adopted) because I wanted to write this book and I wanted to introduce myself as Darryl McDaniels who was born at blah-de-blah-time and weighed blah-de-blah amount at blah-de-blah hospital, so I call my mom,” the rapper explained.
His mom gave him all the information he needed, but then called him five minutes later with D.M.C.’s dad also on the line.
“ ‘We wanted to tell you something,’ ” McDaniels’ recalled.
After speaking with Jaffe - who is also adopted - the pair decided they wanted to give back to those kids who weren’t as lucky, who were left to languish in the system.
“She said to me, ‘Darryl, you got to meet somebody,’ and that’s when I met Mark, because, you know, he has his Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation to help inner-city kids,” he said.
Last night, McDaniels took to the turntables for a grand-opening party at Boston’s new Equinox gym. The event included a star-studded online auction that offered a walk-on part on the HBO Wahlberg-helmed “Entourage,” and a chance to lunch with “Sopranos” stars Edie Falco (Carmela Soprano) Aida Turturro (Janice Soprano) and Sharon Angela (Rosalie Aprile).
All proceeds of the auction benefit The Felix Organization and The Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation.
