SAN DIEGO, June 14, 2007 – Known to give “Lights Out” to his NFL opponents and create a storm of entertainment on the football field, San Diego Chargers Pro Bowler Shawne Merriman will host the Lights On Comedy Jam Weekend, starting June 29 through June 30, 2007. With this inaugural Comedy Jam, title sponsored by Vemma Nutrition (www.vemma.com ), Merriman intends to create a charitable impact comprised of a kid’s football clinic, restoring the local community, and the signature comedy jam that will be open to the public. The two-day charitable event will benefit Shawne Merriman’s Lights On Foundation while supporting both The Salvation Army and the Alpha Project for the Homeless.
The Lights On Foundation supports charitable organizations throughout the country that are providing assistance to homeless families. In addition to the Comedy Jam Weekend, Merriman will also host a similar event in Washington, D.C. in July of this year. Although Shawne has received accolades for his football talent, he has never forgotten what it felt like when he was homeless several times during his youth. Because of this Merriman has donated thousands of dollars to homeless programs, and he wants to continue to give and demonstrate support.
