“It’s Over”
Its time to stop defining what's "hip" in our Hip Hop Culture as violent, vulgar and vicious! No more ignorance and disrespect of our women and each other. Remember.....We, The Hip Hop Culture, define our existence! Not Hollywood and not like the "holy would!" Not the law-making and breaking fake-ass politicians and other peeps in powerful positions! We are more important and powerful than politics and religion combined! Nigga this and nigga that, forget about all that nigga crap! Hip Hop gonna take it back! And not from a TIME stand point! I'm talking about the great eternal presence of creative, motivative and innovative people who make up Our Hip Hop Culture! We can't take back what never left! Its this fake expression of what our culture is being corrupted with that comes n goes. Let the world warn the so-called "industry"...yeah, we takin it back! We takin back our streets, our beats, our speech and our peeps! The bullshit is over!!!
I’m not saying that someone making rap music with the use of "nigga, bitch, ho, and other profane and vulgar words" should be censored! But to express ourselves with responsibility and respectability - to challenge the younger generation and our peers to partake in constructive creative ways of expressing the conditions, concepts and realities of this universal world in which we live has to be the priority.
Hip Hop is always able to provoke a response. That's why we are response-able. But even more importantly, that's why WE ARE RESPONSIBLE! For all the ideas, concepts and images we allow to be seen through our music, art and literature!
See, they all gonna say DMC sounds mad, that's right, I'm mad - I'm highly upset! Hip Hop isn't something that they can say is gonna come and go! Its not a way of life for us, its THE way of life! And we exist to make life, not destroy it! The most powerful and important thing about it is the power of communication!
See the labels go hard with promo and marketing whatever it is they wanna sell, that's why we gotta go a million times harder!......a million times harder with our ART and CULTURE! A song is only on the top of the charts for a limited amount of time, but with or without going number one, a song that touches a life will be on the top of a HEART and in someone’s thoughts forever!
Digest this and let it be told to those who don't know....Hip Hop was here BEFORE it was put on records and it would be here with or without a recording contract! We are here to stay. There are no celebrities to be celebrated in this! Yes, there's talent to be acknowledged, and let’s be compensated for our talent and hard work, but the real true and only celebrity that should be celebrated is HIP HOP which changed and saved and gave purpose and meaning to the lives of a multitude of nations!
I'm really tired of excuses! Excuses don't explain, and explanations don't excuse! I'm about solutions! And OUR solution is HIP HOP!!!
We've done too much frontin and perpetrating a fraud! I'm keepin it real! We have this idea and concept of accepting negativity into our culture because we are too soft to be truthful. Forget about doing things "just to get a rep," real Hip Hop is reppin for the real! How can we continue to honor drugs, crime, pimpin, hoeing, robbin and stealin like its a badge of honor in Hip Hop community? It is true that these are elements of the society in which we live but so is not selling drugs, doing crimes, and irresponsible and ignorant behavior. What about working hard, being honest, being respectable, reading, writing and being creative, assertive, ingenious, and above all righteous? And I don't mean holy from a religious standpoint, I mean doing what's right. Afrika Bambataa didn't start The Zulu Nation so the gangs in NYC could rhyme about how many guns we have, how many people we shot, how much drugs we sell. Yes, we made it known this is what happens......to some of us, but lets use this unique way of communication to communicate how we don't HAVE to do these things. Think about this, and this is REAL y’all! The media and entertainment industry celebrates the negative achievement of the negative! Criminals, cheats, liars, thieves and all other types of antisocial behavior, and this is supposed to be the great nation of America? The truth is these drug dealers, pushers and pimps who are now celebrated, took the easy way out! I repeat, they took the easy way out! What's up with the stories of people who never sold a drug, or did jail time, or held a gun, or pimped a hoe? Chuck D was in college and became one of the greatest if not best rappers of all time! He never got high a day in his life!
Yo! Its kool to go to school! Its "gangsta" to be positive! You're "down by law" if you don't break the law! Weed and alcohol aren’t all we need....we need to pick up a book and read! That's very intoxicating! Hip Hop is the TOTAL expression of the existence of the B-Boy and B-Girl (boys, girls, men and women of the Hip Hop Culture) regardless of race, creed, color, ethnicity, religion, height, weight, gender and LOCATION! Whether in the ghetto or bev-hills there is a connection....through Hip Hop! And Hip Hop ONLY. Religion is divided! Politics is divided! But Hip Hop is felt by every nation across the world! Because of Hip Hop Japan, Germany, France, UK, the rest of Europe, African nations, South America now have something the youth and generations since Herc, Bam, Flash and all the gods before RunDmc can communicate in unity! I know cause when I went to Japan in 86 and they had the gazelles and Adidas and sheep skins and turntables and mics and breakbeats.....I knew it was ALL GOOD! And we as the Hip Hop community must keep it that way! You know what, look what we did when disco music was so popular and we wanted to be heard and at the same time get our fun on? Lets treat ALL the bullshit, irresponsible, immature, fake-ass rap shit like it is, and do what we did back in the day, lets get rid of all the nonsense!.....and I have the perfect thing to do it with.....ITS CALLED HIP HOP! I'm not a punk! I'm not a sucker! I'm gonna stand up a defend Hip Hop's honor! I'm gonna defend The Kingdom of Hip Hop! I'm gonna fight physically, mentally and spiritually against those and those forces trying to corrupt the sacred sanctity of OUR HIP HOP CULTURE! People died for this, so we who are alive could live for this!!!
