Dear Mr. McDaniels,
I am writing to you from the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. My name is Alicia and I am the Administrative Assistant (that is secretary) to a group of hard-working social workers in the Chafee Foster Care Independence Program.
Rhonda, Betsy, Peggie and Christina work long days and even weekends to help youth who are aging out of Foster Care get a good start. They help these young adults get into college, get their own apartments, learn how to pay bills and manage checkbooks. I've been blessed to meet great young people, who struggle and succeed in the Chafee Program.
However, the struggling usually includes at least one episode of homelessness, several instances of empty pantries and dozens of days when they wish there was a home and family they could go back to for the holidays, for the summer or for the weekend.
One thing that I really enjoy doing is giving these young people a week up at Snowshoe Mountain Resort in Pocahontas County WV. The program has a budget every year to bring youth from all across the state up to this resort. My part is to put together a program full of adventure, fun activities and learning experiences.
This year we are featuring your music video on the first night, right after the big pizza party. I've already heard a great deal of buzz from my youth advisors like Tracy. She said your biography won an award on VH1 and that it was great.
Thanks and have a great day!
Alicia M
