LI Music Hall Of Fame Present DMC: An Adoption Journey

LONG ISLAND MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND CINEMA ARTS CENTRE PRESENT DMC: AN ADOPTION JOURNEY

Darryl 'DMC' McDaniels Will Be On-Site To Present Documentary of His Adoption Story

Garden City, NY - (September 21, 2009) -- Long Island Music Hall of Fame (LIMHoF) and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Darryl 'DMC' McDaniels will present the documentary of his adoption story DMC: An Adoption Journey at the Cinema Arts Centre on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 (7:30 PM, 423 Park Avenue, Huntington NY, tickets $17 for Cinema Arts Centre members, $24 for general public). This powerful and moving documentary follows McDaniels, of the pioneering hip-hop group RUN-DMC, as he attempts to find his birth mother after discovering at age 35 that he was adopted. The event will include a reception following the screening of the film and is a fundraiser for both LIMHoF and the Cinema Arts Centre.

Six years ago at the age of 35, hip-hop pioneer and co-founder of the multi-platinum legendary group Run-DMC, Darryl 'DMC' McDaniels made a startling discovery: he was adopted. Suddenly everything he thought he knew about himself changed. This revelation occurred after the death of Jam Master Jay and while DMC was going through a deep depression. He began to question his purpose and place in life.

DMC invited a documentary film crew on his journey to track down this other family he never knew was out there. DMC: My Adoption Journey documented that search. As DMC embarked on this courageous quest for his birth mother, he had little information to go on. Given only what might be his biological mother's name DMC sought help in many places. The four month search created a roller coaster of emotions as DMC was faced with daily disappointments mixed with hope. All the while, his adoptive family struggled to understand his need to search for his roots. The end result provided closure for DMC and an important piece of clarity on life that he was looking for.

"We appreciate DMC's continued support of the Long Island Music Hall of Fame" said LIMHoF Vice-Chair Tom Needham, "and we look forward to giving his fan's a unique opportunity to see this Emmy Award Winning Documentary in a rare public screening." DMC was inducted into the LIMHoF as a member of Run DMC in 2006 and also serves on the Education Advisory Board of the organization.

The Long Island Music Hall of Fame and Cinema Arts Centre present DMC: An Adoption Journey, a screening of the documentary, hosted by Darryl 'DMC' McDaniels on Wednesday, September 30th at 7:30PM at the Cinema Arts Centre (423 Park Avenue, Huntington, NY). Tickets are $17 for Cinema Arts Centre members and $24 for the non-members. The screening will be followed by a special reception hosted by The Long Island Music Hall of Fame.
