Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels revolutionized music. His band Run-D.M.C. was the first rap act to chart in the Top 40, the first to score gold, platinum and multi-platinum albums, the first on the cover of Rolling Stone, the first with a Grammy, the first to appear on MTV. They've spawned not just the entire genre of Hip-Hop, but influenced music across all boundaries. Could a musical act be any more groundbreaking than that?
McDaniels learned he was adopted at age 35 over the phone from his adoptive mother, and now has become an advocate for adoptee rights and foster youth, working closely with Adoption Network Cleveland, who are brining him back to Cleveland for the upcoming National Adoption Conference 4/22-26. Thomas Mulready of Cool Cleveland spoke with him in Downtown Cleveland as he was preparing for the run-up to his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
